INTRODUCING DAVIDE LUCIANO
Describe your work in 3 words...
In your face!
Bold, comical, imaginative
How did the marriage between photography and food evolve for you over the years?
It started with my first film in college, the premise was an Italian mother over feeding her son. When I transitioned into photography I wanted to keep telling stories around food and at the time my wife Claudia Ficca was starting out as a food stylist so it was a perfect fit. Her and I were able to create and collaborate on various projects and we had loads of fun!
Your images carry a signature vibrancy, what inspires your work and the vivid presence of colour?
I like when things jump off the page! Colour allows me to be bold and aggressive with my light. It also gives my work a playful quality.
Favourite shoot to date and why?
My series "Meals Interrupted" is my favourite shoot to date. The process was creative from beginning to end and the shoot took place in 4 different locations in Canada and NYC. We were in an apiary for the picnic bee scene, working with a bee wrangler. We torched an entire romantic dinner for another scene. It was fun!
What's next on your agenda?
I'm working on a few creative series with Claudia, the next one will incorporate some fashion elements and a clumsy girl.
