Bruce Gilden
Grace/Grazia
Commissioned by the Fondazione Brescia Musei, Grace / Grazia is a site-specific installation created for the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo in Brescia, timed to the loan of two early Raphael paintings to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In their absence from the museum walls, Bruce's photographic responses to the works took their place: a diptych reinterpreting the concept of grace through his own visual language, connecting Raphael's The Angel and Christ the Redeemer to faces found on the streets of Brighton Beach and beyond. Curated by Denis Curti, the project was a centrepiece of the 9th Brescia Photo Festival and formed part of Bruce's first major monographic exhibition in Italy.
