Bruce Gilden — Exhibition / Martin Parr x Skate Room — Skateboards
A Closer Look - Fondazione Brescia Musei
This exhibition traces a wide selection of images through Bruce Gilden’s entire artistic career, from his early black-and-white works to his most recent color photographs.
Published to mark the first monograph in Italy dedicated to the New York master of street photography, this volume brings together a vast body of photographs, including *Faces* (2013–2024), a series of portraits conceived as a visual chronicle of cities around the world – from the United States to England, via Mexico, Greece and Colombia – which stem from a deeply sought-after connection and dialogue.
These images are accompanied by black-and-white photographs from his early years (1968), taken in Japan with members of the Yakuza (1996–1999), in Haiti (1985–1995), in Europe, including France (1994–2015), Ireland (1996–1997) and England (2000–2012), but above all in his hometown: New York (1969–1995). The volume is also available at the bookshops of the Santa Giulia Museum and the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo. Curated by Denis Curti.
The monograph also presents two previously unpublished works inspired by Raphael’s paintings held at the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo (The Angel and Christ the Redeemer), through which Gilden reinterprets the concept of ‘grace’ expressed by the great Renaissance master.
Grace / Grazia was shot in January of 2026 on Brighton Beach. The below is a look behind the scenes, shot by Mark Mann.
Martin Parr x Skate Room
One of the final projects personally approved by Martin before his passing, developed in close collaboration with The Skate Room, The Martin Parr Foundation, and DMB. It was a project Martin was actively involved in during its development and one we all thought he would be around to see launch. Continuing this release felt less like a decision than a responsibility: to celebrate the vitality, humor, and cultural sharpness that defined his work and legacy.
The collection features two iconic photographs translated into collectible skateboard editions: Benidorm (Goggles) and The Ocean Dome, Miyazaki, Japan, 1996. Two images that perfectly embody Parr’s singular gaze on contemporary leisure culture: absurd, beautiful, hyperreal, and deeply human.
As with every THE SKATEROOM collection, 10% of the sales from this release will support social impact initiatives through skateboarding and education.
