Alex de Mora - The Hive

London-based director and photographer Alex de Mora followed a new generation of Greek hip hop artists reshaping the face of modern Athens in short film The Hive. Shot in and around the central Athens neighbourhood of Kypseli – which translates as “beehive” – the area became both the backdrop and metaphor for the swarm of creative energy emerging within the Greek capital.

Centering a fast-growing scene that embraced a melting pot of global influences, the film features artists including ATH Kids, Negros Tou Moria, Moose and Kareem Kalokoh amongst a wider creative community redefining contemporary Greek culture through music, fashion and collective identity.

Through an intimate and cinematic approach, The Hive explores the intersections of modern Greek identity, diversity and sociopolitical tension, capturing a generation using creativity and community as a form of expression and resistance.

The premiering screening of The Hive took place at Electra open air cinema in Athens, Greece, was sponsored by Havana Club and included live performances and DJ sets from the featured artists.
